E. Scott Heckard

E. Scott Heckard, 65, Annapolis, MD, formerly of Mt. Gretna, PA, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, June 17, 2015 at Anne Arundel Medical Center, Maryland. He was the husband of Christina Uhlig Heckard to whom he was married for 41 years. He was born in Lebanon, PA on August 19, 1949, son of the late Ralph Thompson Heckard, Jr and Kathryn Albert Heckard. Scott was a 1967 graduate of Cedar Crest High School, Lebanon, PA and attended Atlantic Christian College, Wilson, NC. He began his working career as an assistant manager at Pomeroy's Lebanon store which later became The Bon Ton. He worked his way up the ladder and served as an assistant buyer/manager of the Lebanon stores. Scott also managed the Harrisburg Bon Ton Department Store until it closed. As a result of Bon Ton closing this gave Scott the opportunity to pursue his love of adventure and life in Annapolis. Scott was employed by Annapolis Sailyard as a manager and boat broker. Here he found his calling. He loved people and established many strong relationships with the local sailing enthusiasts. A great pleasure for Scott was hosting cadets from the Naval Academy during weekend passes. Also attending many of their special events were highlights in his life. Scott also spent much time with an "Uncle Dutch" Albert who was a Pearl Harbor survivor, affiliated with continued research and documentaries. Scott chauffeured "Dutch" to events around Washinton, DC as needed, and loved being in his company. Scott lovingly cared for their two poodles, a Portuguese water dog and their cat named Peaches. The many dogs Scott and Christina had throughout the years were all loved by Scott, even having one that would perch on top of his head while he read. He loved sitting and playing guitar, having played since being a teenager. He was exceedingly kind to elders, generous to friends, patient with adolescents and crafty, sly, and whimsical to those he cared to leave into his heart. A Celebration of Scott's Life will be held in the near future for family and friends in Mt. Gretna, PA.
