Herbert M. Bowman

Herbert M. Bowman, 93, Lebanon, beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, January 28, 2013. He was the husband of the late Lucille H. Blouch Bowman, with whom he had shared 62 years of marriage. He was born on March 25, 1919, in Bellegrove, a son of the late George C. Bowman, Sr. and Mamie Meyer Bowman. Herbert was a graduate of Lebanon High School. He and his wife owned and operated Bowman's Food Market on Sandhill Road in North Lebanon Twp. for nearly 30 years. Previously he was employed by Dooley's Produce, which later became T.H. Heilig Co., Lebanon. He was a lifelong member of Covenant United Methodist Church, Lebanon. His interests included watching sports on television and spending time with family, friends and his cat Scamper. He is survived by children, daughter, Karen, wife of Larry Schwalm, Lebanon; son, Larry Bowman, husband of Kathleen Wall, Mt. Gretna; daughter, Kelly, wife of Daniel Long, Lebanon; grandchildren, Lynn Schwalm Barnes, wife of Christopher Barnes, Sussex, NJ; James Schwalm, Enola; Alexis Bowman, Lancaster; Samuel Bowman, Mt. Gretna; great grandchildren, Tyler Jones and Ryan Barnes, Sussex, NJ. He is also survived by brothers, Patrick, husband of Dorothy Bowman, Lebanon; James Bowman, Lebanon; sisters, Grace, wife of Wilmer Hirschbock, Annville; Jean Henry, Watsontown; many nieces, nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Robin Bowman; brothers, Earl and George Bowman Jr.; sisters, Alverta Shimp, Beatrice Houtz, Helen Miller, Martha Ebersole and Mary Reber. Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend Herbert's funeral services on Friday, February 1, 2013 at 1:00 PM from Porterfield-Scheid Funeral Directors & Cremation Services, Ltd., 890 Isabel Dr., (next to Quentin Circle), Lebanon with Rev. Brian Albert and Rev. Dr. Daniel Herner officiating. A viewing will be held Thursday evening, January 31, 2013 from 6 to 8 PM and on Friday from Noon to time of services at the funeral home. Burial will be made in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial remembrances in Herbert's memory may be made to Lebanon Christian Ministries, 250 S. 7th St., Lebanon, PA 17042 or The Humane Society of Lebanon County, 150 N. Ramona Rd., Lebanon, PA 17046.
