J. Larry Everhart

J. Larry Everhart, 91 of Conestoga passed away at Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center on Monday afternoon, July 27, 2026. Born in West Willow on December 31, 1934, he was the son of the late Robert and Helen Brooks Everhart. Larry was the husband of Jane A. Main Everhart who preceded him in death on May 4, 2023 with whom he was married for 70 years. Larry dearly missed Jane everyday since she passed away. Larry served proudly in the United States Marine Corps form January 1952 to January 1955. He worked for Delmarva Millwork as a warehouse foreman in his younger years. He drove tractor trailer for Genoese for many years. After getting off the road as a truck driver, Larry worked for Mount Joy CTC as a custodian and finished his working career as a van driver for Shultz Transportation. He refinished furniture for many years in his garage. After retirement, you would find Larry sitting on his porch on Main Street, watching the traffic and enjoying the fresh air. Larry was a good provider for his family and worked many long hours while his children were growing up. He enjoyed hunting, throwing darts and playing softball in his younger years. Larry and Jane enjoyed trips to the casino and going to auction sales. Larry was very appreciative for any help that was given to him or Jane when it was needed. He loved to tell stories and could talk for hours if allowed to. He always enjoyed a visit from his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Larry will be missed by his sons, John L., husband of Penny A. Everhart and Michael S., husband of Deidre Everhart, all of Conestoga and his daughter, Debra L. Billett of Jonesborough, Tennessee. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Keri, Kristy, Jason, Brian, Alexa and Ashley, 16 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. Larry is survived by his brother, Robert, husband of Arlene Everhart and his sister, Patricia Axe, both of Willow Street and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Carl Everhart and sisters, Shirley Andrejev and Barbara Umler. Larry's family would like to thank Comfort Keepers and especially his aide Liz Taylor in helping to keep Larry's wishes of staying in his home possible. Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend Larry's funeral service on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at 10AM from the Melanie B. Scheid Funeral Directors & Cremation Services, 3225 Main Street, Conestoga. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday, July 31 from 6PM to 8PM and on Saturday morning from 9AM to 10AM. Interment will be held in the Conestoga UM Cemetery where military honors will be performed.
