Richard E. Thompson Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Richard E. Thompson, 92, of Lancaster passed away at Lancaster General Hospital early Monday morning, October 16, 2017. Born in Lancaster on November 20, 1924, he was the son of the late Wallace C. and Barbara M. Miller Thompson. He was the husband of Anna P. Young Thompson with who he married on September 25, 1948. Dick served during WWII in the United States Navy, enlisting in April of 1943. He had worked for the former Posey Iron Works as an X ray welder and then for Ross Technology in Leola as a Welder. He worked for Ross Technology in maintenance until the age of 85. Dick was a devout Catholic who was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church where he served as a perpetual adorer. Dick was a member of the Millersville-Manor VFW Post 7294, former member of the 8th Ward Club, enjoyed sports, especially Notre Dame football. He loved his family and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Dick is survived by his wife of 69 years, Anna; daughter, Barbara A. Griffe of Lancaster and son, Gerard D., husband of Teresa Darrenkamp Thompson of Leola. He will be missed by his grandchildren, Jennifer Corcoran, Douglas Griffe, Patrick D. Thompson, Elizabeth A. Thompson, great grandchildren, Katie and Kyle Corcoran. He is also survived by his brother, James Thompson of Willow Street and his sister, Rosemary Humpheville of Millersville. He was preceded in death by his brother, Wallace Thompson and Great Grandson, Chase Corcorcan. Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend Dick's Memorial Mass on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at 11AM from St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 440 Saint Joseph Street, Lancaster with Father Allan F. Wolfe as celebrant. Friends will be received at the church from 10 to 11am on Thursday. Interment with military honors will be held in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Bausman. Please omit flowers, memorial remembrances may be made in Dick's name to St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
