Douglas E. Smith

Douglas E. Smith, 59 of Conestoga passed away on Friday morning, February 6, 2015 at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Lancaster and raised in Millersville, he was the son of the late Christian Smith and Mary Ellen Smith. He was married 38 years to Robin L. Denlinger Smith on May 1st. Doug was a 1973 graduate of Penn Manor High School. Being a hard and dedicated worker, he began his career out of high school as an electrician. He was employed for over 30 years with C&D Technologies. Doug was currently employed as a maintenance mechanic for Rock Tenn in Lancaster. Doug was a jack of all trades, being able to fix or rigged almost anything. He enjoyed camping and often took his gun for a walk in the woods. He was a former volunteer fireman with Conestoga Fire Company. He was a member of Conestoga United Methodist Church. Doug loved life and thought the world of his family. In addition to his wife Robin and his mother Mary Ellen of Maytown, he leaves behind his children to cherish his memory; daughters, Heather L. Smith of Mountville, Jamie L., wife of Eric McFalls of Lancaster and son, Shawn D., husband of Jen Smith of Quarryville. Grandchildren that he thought the world of include, Austin McMellen, Christopher Smith, Logan McFalls, and Emily Smith. He is survived by his brother, Barry Smith of Millersville and sisters, Cindy, wife of Mark Farmer of Washington Boro and Linda Hershey of Mt. Joy. He was preceded in death by an infant grandchild. Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend Doug's funeral services on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 from the Conestoga UM Church, 71 Sand Hill Rd., Conestoga at 11AM with Pastor Richard Rimert officiating. Friends will be received on Tuesday evening, February 10th from 6 to 8 PM from the Melanie B. Scheid Funeral Directors & Cremation Services, 3225 Main St., Conestoga and also at the church on Wednesday from 10 to 11AM. Intement will be held in the adjoining church cemetery.
