Jona L. Green

Jona L. Green, 50 of Quarryville passed away suddenly at her home on Tuesday evening, July 14, 2026 with her husband and son by her side. Jona was born in Wilmington, Delaware on April 21, 1976, the oldest child of R. Scott and Sandra Beth Huber Hoover. She was the loving and endearing wife of Matthew H. Green, with whom she married on December 29, 2000. Jona graduated from Penn Manor School in 1994, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, enjoyed performing in live productions and played volleyball. She went on to receive her bachelor's degree in communications from Millersville University in 1999. She wrote for the student ran paper "The Snapper". She furthered her education and obtained her master's in student affairs at Montana State in 2004. Her life was devoted to leading in the front and serving amongst the crowd, both with the same enthusiasm that made her renowned and celebrated. Known for her love for the color red, her contagious smile and anything leopard print, she was sure to stand out in a crowd. She loved and was passionate in the world of business, networking and developed distinguished positions of influence in her community. Jona was so proud to have achieved most recently her position as a financial advisor with Edward Jones and opening a branch near Willow Street. Her commitment to serve others and guide them along their financial pathway made her climb upwards in her Edward Jones career. Her career was cut short due to an illness in 2024. Prior to Edward Jones, Jona taught Adult Education Classes for YTI and was Program Director for Berks Technical Institute. Jona served as past president for the Southern Lancaster County Chamber, member of the ABWA, Referral Partners Plus, Polka Dot Powerhouse and volunteer for the Alzheimer's Association to name just a few of her networking groups. Her ability to speak and to stand out from others gave her the opportunity to be crowned as the Pennsylvania Beekeepers Association Honey Queen in 1995 and became the first Pennsylvanian to become the American Honey Queen in 1996. Her dedication to many masonic organizations started at a young age she became involved with Bethel #14 Quarryville, Job's Daughters International where she served as Honored Queen and Miss Job's Daughter of Pennsylvania. She served as past Worthy Matron for Robert Fulton Chapter #446 Order of Eastern Star and past Royal Matron for Amaranth Court #70, Lancaster. Jona supported her sons, Holden and Kenton while they served with DeMolay International and her husband Matt as he served Pennsylvania as the Grand Royal Patron in Amaranth. Jona, Matt and the boys attended New Providence Church where she was known to handle the morning announcements quite often with a glow on her face that was hard to forget. As a "boy" mom, she supported her boys thru their many music and school activities. She was the organizer for her family, keeping the calendar and keeping everyone on schedule. Family was very important to Jona, as being the oldest of her siblings, she served as a great leader for them to follow in her footsteps. She helped her dad, Scott in his painting business and her mom in her catering business. Jona was always ready to lend a hand, even for a few minutes to help someone out. Jona will be dearly missed by her husband Matt and her sons, Holden G., husband of Kimberly of Millersville and Kenton M. of Quarryville and her daughter, Emily E. Aukamp of Pequea. Jona recently became a grandmother to Bailey Mae just last month. Her parents R. Scott and Sandy Hoover of Lancaster will forever miss their daughter and their daily talks or texts. She is survived by her brothers, Jared G., husband of Lisa Hoover of Lancaster, Judah B. Hoover of Landisville, Jason S., husband of Julie Hoover of Gordonville and Josiah M. Hoover of Conestoga and her sister, Jozlyn J., wife of Reid Grodski of Willow Street and her mother-in-law, Brenda K. Green of Gettysburg. She was known as Fun Aunt Jona to her many nieces and nephews. Jona will remain in the hearts of her many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends that she touched their lives in her short 50 years of life. Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend Jona's funeral service on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at 4PM from New Providence Church, 269 Cider Road, New Providence. Friends will be received at the church on Monday, July 27, 2026 from 6PM to 8PM and on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 from 2:30PM to 4PM. Interment will be held in the Mt. Nebo UM Cemetery, Pequea.
